Is this history or English class???
Our tenth grade literature is very heavily influenced by historical events, people, and places. We're in my favorite unit now: "The Founding Fathers". I'm excited to be able to combine my love of reading and history. Ben Franklin is probably my favorite because he did so many things: inventor, author, journalist, scientist...the list goes on. Our country would be very different if he had never lived. I really want to travel to Philadelphia to see his grave and learn more about him firsthand. Who is your favorite "founding father" and why?

Mrs. Moates
Today, we did a fun activity in 2nd block (white) to review for our upcoming lit test. Mrs. Moates loaded the app Studyblue to our new ipods. She made interactive flashcards to help students review. We love Mrs. Moates! She makes English class more fun!

What I'm reading
I started reading the young adult book Divergent this week, and I can't put it down! Do you have a favorite dystopian novel? It seems to be the hottest up and coming genre for young adult fiction. If you liked Hunger Games, check out Divergent and the second book in the series, Insurgent!

So many books...so little time!
Today, we did one of my favorite things. We went to the library to pick out "book talk" books! I think the students made some good choices. I can't wait to see the finished product when they present on December 14!

Blogging
I'm excited that several of my fourth block students have chosen to blog. It's been a great two weeks of school. My fourth block is a lot of fun. They have lots of different personalities and interests. I enjoyed learning more about them through their biography assignment this week. I hope they write on my blog!
